Why does my phone shut down at 30 percent?
A healthy cell holds its voltage steady as it empties, so the number on screen matches what is left in it. Lithium chemistry slows down as temperature falls, so every battery gives up some of its usable capacity on a January morning. A cell with plenty of life left has enough margin to absorb that. Why is the screen lifting at one edge?
Gas builds inside a failed lithium pouch and there is nowhere for it to go, so the cell swells and pushes on whatever is above it. That shows up as a display rising at one corner, a back panel no longer sitting flush, or a gap you can catch a fingernail in. Some phones run warm while idle at the same time.
